Affordable housing advocacy helps people bring local priorities to elected officials. When we explain why housing matters in our communities, we give decision-makers a clearer picture of what matters back home. One letter can feel small. Together, many voices can reach much further.
Minnesota NAHRO’s 2026 August Advocacy campaign demonstrated that reach. Across 25 agencies, 127 advocates sent 5,886 letters, contacting both U.S. senators and all eight U.S. representatives. Affordable housing and community development voices reached Minnesota’s entire congressional delegation.
The campaign also welcomed 25 new advocates and recognized 20 people for five consecutive years of participation. New voices broaden the conversation. Returning advocates help keep local concerns in front of elected officials year after year.
These results show the power of participation. Advocacy creates opportunities to make local needs heard. A stronger conversation starts when more people speak up.

Yay Us!

We took second place in a friendly competition among Minnesota housing agencies in the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials (NAHRO) 2026 August Advocacy campaign! (Kudos to first-place winner Metro HRA!)

Throughout August, we joined the housing agencies and individuals nationwide in raising our voices for affordable housing and community development. Thank you to all who took action, shared the message, and reached out to elected officials. Every call, email, and share helps to tell the story of why safe, stable, affordable housing matters.
