Home is where your story begins.
What’s the number one thing we hear from participants who take our Home Stretch classes?
“I wish I had done this sooner!”
Homebuyer education is required by lenders for many first-time homebuyers as a condition of their mortgage approval. But that doesn’t mean you have to wait until you’ve picked a realtor, or have a closing date set.
In fact, the best time to benefit from homebuyer education is at the very beginning of the process! Before getting pre-approved, before choosing a realtor, before attending your first open house.
Even if you’ve purchased a home before, the information you learn will make you a smarter buyer and put you in control.
We offer a number of options to meet your education needs. (But if your financing is subject to completing homebuyer education, make sure the option you choose is approved by your lender!)
Home Stretch is an eight-hour education course that prepares participants for the homebuying process. The classroom-style workshop is taught by expert instructors from the nonprofit, real estate, and lending industries. Home Stretch is a requirement for most homebuyer assistance programs. Workshops are taught monthly, either as an all-day, eight-hour workshop, or two, four-hour sessions taught over two days/evenings.
To see a list of upcoming workshops, and a link to sign-up for the course online via Eventbrite, please click here. The cost is $40. We are only able to accept credit card payments through the Eventbrite website. If you need to pay with cash or check, or would like to request a fee waiver, please use the contact information at the bottom of the page.
Need greater flexibility? Framework provides an online homebuyer education course that can be completed at home or on the go – on your computer or tablet, or even your phone. Most people finish the coursework in 4-6 hours. The cost is $75. Click here for more information or to sign up! (Our agency may receive a referral fee of $60 from Framework.)
Lots of people have questions about buying a home. How much can I afford? What credit score do I need? What is ARM, PITI, or PMI? But some don’t need a structured course. Our counselors can still help you out and get you moving in the right direction.
We can pull your credit report and review it with you – and give you the tools to clean it up and improve your credit if necessary. We’ll review different mortgage programs and any local or state assistance programs that you might qualify for. And we’ll help you figure out what you can afford, how to budget for your new home, and create a financial action plan that can help you meet your financial goals.
